Nana Jenny’s Kitchen Traditions Continue
I remember growing up and watching my mom making homemade tortillas, chile verde and homemade refried beans while listening to the album of Los Relampagos on our brand new Curtis Mathis TV/ Stereo.
My dad was usually making hot salsa. Both my parents loved cooking! I got my cooking skills not only from my parents, but my grandma Hinojosa as well! If mom didn’t have the right spices on hand she’d make do with what she had in her kitchen cabinet. I do the same thing as well! I was raised seeing my mom and all my aunts in the kitchen come together to make a home cooked meal for my dad, and uncles and all us kids. I continue that tradition today with my three boys. They all love to cook! My mom San Juana Chayrez dreamt of opening a small place to sell her fabulous Mexican Foods which inspired me to pursue her dream. With the help of my dad Robert M Chayrez who helped me out with my salsa and food recipes.
